LIQUOR CONTROL AMENDMENT
(PROTECTED ENTERTAINMENT PRECINCTS) BILL 2022
886. Hon JAMES HAYWARD to the minister representing the
Minister for Racing and Gaming:
I refer to the Liquor Control
Amendment (Protected Entertainment Precincts) Bill 2022.
(1) Did the
minister consider Indigenous sensibilities to this proposal considering the
perceived similarities to the Perth prohibited area that was enforced from 1927
to 1954?
(2) What specific
actions will be taken to ensure protected entertainment precinct enforcement
does not disproportionately affect First Nations people?
(3) Will the
minister commit to scrapping this policy in six months if statistics show that
Indigenous people are being disproportionately affected?
Hon
STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the member for some notice
of the question. The following information has been provided to me by the
Minister for Racing and Gaming.
(1)–(3) The
Liquor Control Amendment (Protected Entertainment Precincts) Bill 2022 will be
introduced into Parliament soon. Once introduced, the member will ascertain
that the bill contains a number of safeguard provisions to ensure there are
appropriate checks and balances in place and that the bill strikes the right
balance in excluding those who behave in an unlawful, antisocial, disorderly,
offensive, indecent and threatening way in our entertainment precincts.
