ELECTORAL DISTRICT OF
DARLING RANGE — BY-ELECTION
414. Hon SIMON O'BRIEN to the minister representing
the Minister for Electoral Affairs:
(1) How much will it cost to run a by-election
in Darling Range?
(2) Has the Western
Australian Electoral Commission received this funding in its 2018–19
budget allocation or will the amount be a variation?
(3) If this cost was not included in
the 2018–19 budget, why not?
Hon
ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:
I thank the member for the question.
The Minister for Electoral Affairs has provided the following information.
(1) The cost is estimated to be in
the vicinity of $250 000 to $300 000.
(2)–(3) It
is not usual practice that the commission's annual budget include an
allowance for possible by-elections. Funding arrangements are made when the
writ for a by-election is issued. In the case of the district of Darling Range,
this has not yet occurred.
