Parliamentary Questions

Question On Notice No. 343 asked in the Legislative Council on 5 September 2017 by Hon Alison Xamon

Question Directed to the: Leader of the House representing the Attorney General
Parliament: 40 Session: 1

Question

I refer to the reform of the Criminal Law (Mentally Impaired Accused) Act 1996, and I ask:

(a) is the Chief Psychiatrist playing an integral role in the reform of this legislation; and
(b) if no to (a), why not?
Answered on 11 October 2017

(a) The Chief Psychiatrist was a member of the working group established following the tabling of the 2016 Review Report and subsequently provided key input into further reforms to the CLMIA Act. The Chief Psychiatrist, alongside other expert stakeholders, will continue to be consulted as these reforms progress in line with the McGowan Labor Government’s election commitments.

(b) Not applicable.
