Question Without Notice No. 146 asked in the Legislative Council on 27 March 2018 by Hon Peter Collier

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

ALBANY WAVE ENERGY PROJECT — ELECTRICITY PRODUCTION
      146. Hon PETER COLLIER to the Minister for Regional Development:
I refer to the Albany wave farm.
      (1) What is the size of the project in megawatts?
      (2) What is the expected production over 12 months in megawatt hours?
      (3) How many households are expected to be powered by the wave farm over 12 months?
      (4) Does Carnegie Clean Energy have a power purchase agreement for the electricity produced; and, if not, how will the electrons be exported into the grid?
Hon ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:
I thank the member for the question.
      (1) The technology development project will design, build and operate a 1.5-megawatt CETO 6 unit.
      (2) Given the nature of the project as a technology development project, this analysis is part of the ongoing modelling and development activities of the project.
      (3) The successful export of 1.5 megawatts of electricity would be enough to power around 200 homes.
      (4) No power purchase agreement is currently in place. A power purchase agreement is not required to export electricity to the south west interconnected system. Carnegie expects to export on a merchant basis, as it intends to do for its 10-megawatt Northam solar plant.
