Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 675 asked in the Legislative Council on 23 August 2018 by Hon Tjorn Sibma

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

GOVERNMENT CONTRACTS — HUAWEI

675. Hon TJORN SIBMA to the minister representing the Minister for Transport:

I refer to the answer provided to my question asked yesterday about the Public Transport Authority evaluation panel whose report for the procurement of the radio system replacement project recommended the award of that contract to Huawei UGL.

(1) For what reason or reasons did the evaluation team recommend the award of the contract to Huawei UGL?

(2) Will the minister table a copy of the evaluation report?

(3) If no to (2), why not?

Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.

(1) The Public Transport Authority advised that Huawei UGL demonstrated that it had the expertise and capability to deliver and maintain the system to the Public Transport Authority's desired specification with the most competitive pricing.

(2)–(3) The PTA is currently seeking advice on the legality, probity and confidentiality issues around the release of the evaluation report.
