CLIMATE CHANGE
471. Hon WILSON TUCKER to the Leader of the House
representing the Premier:
I
refer the Premier to the latest report of the Intergovernmental Panel on
Climate Change dated 9 August 2021, which found that average
temperatures in Australia have increased by approximately 1.4 degrees since
1910 and warns that we are on track for rising sea levels, increased and more
intense bushfires and increased droughts and floods. I also refer the Premier
to his comments in October 2019 during an interview on 6PR in which he said, ''A
climate emergency? I don't actually know what that means''. In
light of the IPCC's findings, will the Premier finally admit that the
state is facing a climate emergency?
Hon SUE
ELLERY replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
I refer the honourable member to the
Western Australian climate policy published in 2020, which underscores
the state government's commitment to adapting to climate change and to
working with all sectors of the economy to achieve net zero greenhouse gas
emissions by 2050.
