Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 742 asked in the Legislative Council on 6 August 2019 by Hon Ken Baston

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

WA INDUSTRY LINK REGIONAL COMMUNICATIONS FORUM

742. Hon KEN BASTON to the minister representing the Minister for State Development, Jobs and Trade:

I refer to the WA Industry Link Regional Communications Forum held in Broome in July.

(1) Will the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation provide a report or discussion paper regarding the issues raised at these forums?

(2) If yes to (1), approximately when will this information be publicly available?

(3) If no to (1), why not?

(4) Is the department actively working on changes to local procurement policies as a result of this forum?

Hon ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:

I thank the member for the question.

(1) The Broome forum was well attended and, as already reported in the media, a range of procurement-related issues were discussed. However, at no stage was a commitment made to produce and make available a report of this event.

(2) Not applicable.

(3)–(4) The Broome event held on 23 July 2019 was followed on 25 July with a similar function at Kununurra. Forums are being conducted in Karratha on 13 August 2019 and Port Hedland on 15 August, followed by events in the south west, goldfields–Esperance, great southern and Peel. These events are intended to initiate ongoing feedback from regional stakeholders on procurement policies, including the Western Australian Industry Participation Strategy 2019, Buy Local and the regional sourcing strategy.
