Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 1071 asked in the Legislative Council on 13 October 2020 by Hon Colin Holt

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

BUSSELL HIGHWAY — BUSSELTON–CAPEL

1071. Hon COLIN HOLT to the minister representing the Minister for Transport:

I refer to the duplication of Bussell Highway between Bunbury and Busselton.

(1) With improved traffic flow onto Bussell Highway from the Bunbury Outer Ring Road, will slip lanes be installed for exit from the Capel town site onto Bussell Highway in stage 1 to improve safety; and, if not, why not?

(2) Will slip lanes be installed in stage 2 for exit from Sues Road onto Bussell Highway; and, if not, why not?

(3) Can the minister please outline the community consultation conducted for stage 1 and stage 2 of this Main Roads project?

(4) Will the minister meet Capel representatives on site to discuss the idea of slip lanes?

Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. I note that this question was provided on 8 October, so the answer is current as of that date.

(1) The project scope for stage 1 is for duplication of the highway between the Capel bypass, just south of Spurr Street, and Hutton Road. The Capel town site exits are north of Spurr Street and not within the project scope.

(2) A roundabout will be constructed at the intersection of Sues Road and Bussell Highway, along with an acceleration lane for access from Sues Road onto Bussell Highway.

(3) Community consultation for stage 1 works has included meetings with relevant local governments and engagement with adjacent local residents and businesses.

(4) Main Roads will continue to engage with local residents on this project.
