Question Without Notice No. 1475 asked in the Legislative Council on 28 November 2019 by Hon Colin De Grussa

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

ANIMAL ACTIVISM — POLICE RESPONSE

1475. Hon COLIN de GRUSSA to the minister representing the Minister for Police:

I refer to recent incidents of misguided animal activism perpetuated under the government's watch, including an incident on 4 November 2019 when police resources were deployed to escort a livestock transporter and the malicious targeting of Perth butcher Vince Garreffa online and on 9 November 2019 through a protest outside his lawfully operating business.

(1) Were any arrests, charges or move-on notices issued in relation to these events listed above?

(2) If yes to (1), please provide further details.

(3) Was a police helicopter deployed to respond to either of these events, and for how many hours was it required?

(4) What is the cost to the taxpayer for the deployment of a police helicopter for one hour, and is it more or less than the $2 795 listed in the Police (Fees and Charges) Regulations 2018?

Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided to me by the Minister for Police.

The Western Australia Police Force has been unable to answer the question in the time frame provided. The honourable member may wish to put the question on notice.
