Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 156 asked in the Legislative Council on 15 March 2022 by Hon James Hayward

Parliament: 41 Session: 1

OLD BUNBURY FIRE STATION

156. Hon JAMES HAYWARD to the Minister for Emergency Services:

I refer to contamination issues at the old Bunbury fire station at 38 Forrest Avenue in South Bunbury.

(1) Can the minister advise whether there are concerns regarding chemical contamination at the old Bunbury fire station?

(2) If yes, what are the specific concerns?

(3) Is the minister confident there is no risk to adjacent residential properties from the old Bunbury fire station?

(4) Has the Department of Fire and Emergency Services considered options for the future of the old Bunbury fire station; and, if so, what are they?

Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:

(1)–(2) As a result of a preliminary site investigation, the old Bunbury fire station has been classified as possibly contaminated–investigation required.

(3) A voluntary auditor's report was prepared in May 2020 and several adjacent sites have since been classified as possibly contaminated–investigation required. These property owners were provided with written advice of the potential contamination.

(4) The old Bunbury fire station is surplus to DFES requirements. The site is listed for disposal on the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage disposal portal.
