SUBIACO EAST REDEVELOPMENT
503. Hon NEIL THOMSON to the Leader of the House
representing the Minister for Planning:
I refer to concerns raised by
residents of Subiaco, including the previous four mayors of Subiaco, about
plans for property development for up to 6 000 new residents at the Subiaco
East redevelopment.
(1) How does the
Minister for Planning propose to ensure that there are adequate playing field
facilities for the Bob Hawke College on the site or adjoining sites, noting
requirements of state planning policy?
(2) Is the
minister aware of the concerns of residents, parents, and the parents and
citizens' association about the safety of children due to the proximity
of intensive apartment and commercial development, and what measures are being
taken to address those concerns?
(3) Has
DevelopmentWA undertaken traffic modelling as a result of the proposed
development, including at peak times during school pick-up; and, if yes, can
the minister table that modelling?
(4) What is the
most recent estimated net value to the state of the proposed Subiaco East
development and over what time frame?
Hon SUE
ELLERY replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) Bob Hawke
College has priority access to use Subiaco Oval for student recreation during
school hours. In addition, the Department of Education recently constructed
eight basketball courts on land between Subiaco Oval and the college.
(2)–(3) Following
the strong advocacy of the members for Nedlands, Perth and Churchlands, the
government has committed to install two new pedestrian crossings in the area to
improve pedestrian safety.
(4) Subiaco East is expected to
attract some $1 billion in private sector investment over the next 20 years.
