Parliament: 40 Session: 1

SEA WATER ACCESS CHARGES
      373. Hon KEN BASTON to the minister representing the Minister for Fisheries:
Recent questions in this place have confirmed that it costs South Metropolitan TAFE 4c per kilolitre to access sea water and that tenants of the Broome Tropical Aquaculture Park are charged $15.71 per kilolitre to access sea water.
      (1) What is the estimated cost per kilolitre to the Department of Fisheries to obtain and dispose of the sea water made available to the tenants of the Broome Tropical Aquaculture Park?
      (2) What would be the estimated annual cost to a tenant of the Broome Tropical Aquaculture Park to obtain and dispose of 100 kilolitres of sea water per day?
Hon ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:
I thank the member for notice of the question. The following information has been provided by the Minister for Fisheries.
(1) The cost would be $15.71 per kilolitre based on 10 000 kilolitres drawn and discharged per annum.
      (2) The cost would be $278 130. The estimated cost per kilolitre is $7.62 based on 36 500 kilolitres drawn and discharged per annum.
