Parliament: 40 Session: 1

TOURISM WESTERN AUSTRALIA — REPRIORITISED FUNDING
      478. Hon DONNA FARAGHER to the minister representing the Minister for Tourism:
I refer to the minister's media statement on 21 August 2017 advising that —
The McGowan Government has asked Tourism Western Australia to immediately reprioritise $2 million of its current budget to help fill empty hotel rooms in Perth.
      (1) Did the minister make a direction to Tourism Western Australia, in accordance with section 16 of the Western Australian Tourism Commission Act 1983, to reprioritise the funding?
(2) If yes to (1), will the minister table a copy of the ministerial direction; and, if not, why not?
(3) If no to (1), does the minister intend to issue such a direction in accordance with the act?
      (4) Has Tourism Western Australia agreed to reprioritise funding; and, if so, what activities will now not be funded through Tourism Western Australia in order to fulfil the minister's request?
Hon ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:
I thank the member for the question. The following answer is based on information provided by the Minister for Tourism.
(1) No direction was made.
(2) Not applicable.
(3) No.
      (4) After a discussion with the minister, Tourism WA identified the opportunity to reprioritise some of its 2017–18 funding. No current or planned activities for 2017–18 have been impacted.
