Question

With reference to the 2019 Fire Management Strategy released on 30 July 2020 by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, in the production of this strategy, I ask:
(a) what public consultation did the Department engage in (please specify); and
(b) what scientists were consulted (please name)?

Answered on 15 September 2020

(a) Feedback on the Fire Management Strategy was sought and received from the following external stakeholders:

  • The Department of Fire and Emergency Services.
  • The Pastoralists and Graziers Association of Western Australia.
  • The Western Australian Farmers Federation Inc. – Beekeeping Section.
  • The Bushfire Front Inc.

Feedback on the strategy was sought, but not received from the following external stakeholders:

  • The Conservation Council of Western Australia.
  • The Western Australian Local Government Association.
  • The Association of Volunteer Bush Fire Brigades of Western Australia Inc.

(b) The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions’ (DBCA) Biodiversity and Conservation Science staff provided input into the strategy. DBCA’s Biodiversity and Conservation Science coordinates and delivers science in the Department, providing science and biodiversity knowledge to support the functions of DBCA.
