CLIMATE CHANGE POLICY —
CONSULTATION
157. Hon TIM CLIFFORD to the Minister for Environment:
I refer to the state government's
climate change policy.
(1) Will the
minister please give an estimation of when the climate change policy will be
complete?
(2) Is the government
consulting with other states that have legislated emissions reduction targets;
and, if so, which states has it consulted with?
Hon
STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) The state
government's ''Climate Change in Western Australia''
issues paper, which was released for public
consultation late last year, generated significant community and stakeholder
interest. Almost 4 000 submissions were received by the Department of
Water and Environmental Regulation. These submissions are being considered in
detail in order to develop the state climate policy, which I expect to release
later this year.
(2) The state
government routinely consults with the commonwealth, state and territory
governments across Australia on a range of climate change matters. These
include through forums such as the Meeting of Environment Ministers, the
Cross-Jurisdictional Community of Practice for Climate Science, the Community of Practice for Health and Climate
Change, the Adaptation Working Group and the National Greenhouse Gas
Inventory Committee.
