Parliament: 40 Session: 1

Answered on 20 February 2020

135. Hon PETER COLLIER to the minister representing the Minister for Transport:

I refer to question without notice 65 answered on Tuesday, 18 February 2020.

(1) Will the minister provide a breakdown of the cost components of the $1.3 billion railcar contract; for example, for the railcar assembly facility, maintenance and construction?

(2) When will the first railcar be delivered under the contract?

(3) Will the first railcar be manufactured in Western Australia; and, if not, why not?

(4) Will the minister table the contract with Alstom; and, if not, why not?

I thank the Leader of the Opposition for some notice of the question.

(1) The railcar contract awarded to Alstom, which includes the supply and maintenance of the 246 Metronet railcars and the supply of the Australind replacement railcars, has come in under budget by $347 million.

(2) As per the media statement dated 10 December 2019, the first C-series trains produced at the Bellevue plant will be ready to use on the network in 2022.

(3) Yes.

(4) The minister will seek advice from the Public Transport Authority as to the commercial confidentiality of the document.
