Answered on 12 September 2017

For the Member's information, I have advised the Director General that I believe that this project should be primarily staffed from the Pilbara and the Kimberley. I am also intending to review the direction of the project to better align to industry expectations.

(a) The Northern Beef Future Project commenced on 22 August 2014.

(b) The project budget was $15 million over five years.

(c) There are currently 12.5 full-time equivalent employees in the project, located in Broome, Bunbury, Moora, South Perth and Waroona.

(d) There are no Aboriginal people directly employed through the project.

(e) Project expenditure to 30 July 2017 is $10, 528, 121.

(f) As detailed in the Northern Beef Futures project Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), outcomes of the project will be realised after the project ceases (scheduled for 30 June 2019). To date, key milestones achieved under the MOU include;

· Supply chain scenario models and tools developed.

· Reports completed on supply chain planning and logistics development; building trust and collaboration into supply chains; and the priority infrastructure review.

· Public/private partnerships for priority infrastructure identified and public/private partnership agreement negotiated to deliver dedicated clearance yard capacity.

· Review of potential alternate and innovative business models completed.

· Market potential for innovative beef products identified and documented.

· Prefeasibility studies completed for two new supply chains.
