808. Hon Dr STEVE THOMAS to the Minister for Environment:
The minister has been waiting for
this one! I refer to the declared weed arum lily, Zantedeschia aethiopica.
(1) What area of
land managed by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions is
currently infested by arum lily?
(2) In the last
12 months, what area of land managed by the DBCA that is infested by arum lily
has had remedial action taken to remove arum lilies?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) Given the level of detail
required, I request that the member put this part of the question on notice.
(2) The
Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions' arum lily
control work is prioritised in areas with high conservation values. Typically,
large infestations, especially those occurring across tenure, are not managed
for eradication but will be managed to stop further infestation. An estimate of
the remedial work on arum lily infestations carried out on DBCA-managed lands
in the last 12 months is: in the Swan region, approximately 9.12 hectares
treated in DBCA's Perth Hills district; and in the south west region,
approximately 40 hectares treated in DBCA's Blackwood district, focused
on protecting threatened ecological communities.
