FORRESTFIELD–AIRPORT LINK — SOIL
CONTAMINATION
1264. Hon Dr STEVE THOMAS to the Leader of the House
representing the Minister for Transport:
I refer to the minister's answer to question without
notice 1212, asked yesterday, 23 November 2022.
(1) Between
what dates was Forrestfield–Airport Link spoil deposited on the
NorthLink, Kenwick rail freight facility and FAL projects?
(2) If FAL spoil is being used, why, according to the
minister's own answers, was 600 000 cubic metres being stored at
777 Abernethy Road, Forrestfield in October 2020, and 600 000 cubic metres of
spoil is still being stored there in November 2022?
(3) Is any PFAS leaching from the apparently unlined site
into the local ground or groundwater?
Hon SUE ELLERY replied:
Just before I provide this answer, I am advised that the
question that Hon Nick Goiran asked on behalf of Hon Tjorn Sibma had already
been asked and answered today.
Hon Nick Goiran: Excellent.
Hon SUE ELLERY: You have got to keep up, mate!
Several members interjected.
The PRESIDENT: Order!
Hon SUE ELLERY: Bring on the end of next week!
I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question.
(1)–(2)
For NorthLink, the dates were October 2018
to December 2018; Kenwick rail freight facility, April 2019 to September
2019; and FAL, during the bulk earthworks phase of the project, from 2017 to
2020. Beneficial re-use of soil on the Great Eastern Highway bypass
interchanges project commenced in November 2022.
(3) Monitoring indicates that there have been no
groundwater impacts attributable to the temporary storage of soil. As previously stated, the concentrations of
PFAS in the soil are below the human health and ecological assessment
criteria in the PFAS national environmental management plan.
