Question Without Notice No. 900 asked in the Legislative Council on 30 November 2017 by Hon Jacqui Boydell

Parliament: 40 Session: 1
Answered on 30 November 2017

ROYALTIES FOR REGIONS — MEMBER FOR PILBARA
      900. Hon JACQUI BOYDELL to the Minister for Regional Development:
I refer to the more than $80 million cut from Pilbara royalties for regions projects in the last eight months, detailed in an answer to a question on notice in Legislative Council estimates.
      (1) On what date did the member for Pilbara first write to the minister's office asking her to reconsider any of these cuts?
(2) What was her response?
(3) Will she please table the correspondence?
(4) If no to (3) why not?
Hon ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:
(1)–(4) I thank the member for the question. I have had very many discussions with the member for Pilbara about how we can best honour our election commitments to the people of the Pilbara, such as the Karratha–Tom Price Road and the Port Hedland marina. We have also spoken about how we need to bring the state's finances back into reasonable order. The member for Pilbara has been a fierce advocate for his region, and he is very clear that we need to prioritise our commitments over the commitments of other parties contesting the election.
