Question Without Notice No. 636 asked in the Legislative Council on 14 September 2017 by Hon Kyle Mcginn

Parliament: 40 Session: 1
Answered on 14 September 2017

KALGOORLIE MOTORSPORT FACILITY–HEDLAND WELL WOMEN'S CENTRE — 2017–18 STATE BUDGET
      636. Hon KYLE McGINN to the Minister for Regional Development:
The minister was involved in many regional election commitments throughout the election campaign, including a magnetic resonance imaging machine for and a motorsport facility in Kalgoorlie, and the Hedland Well Women's Centre in South Hedland. Can the minister inform the house where these commitments are found in the Budget Statements?
Hon ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:
I appreciate the question and I note that Hon Kyle McGinn has been a great advocate for the goldfields and the Mining and Pastoral Region generally. I was concerned about some of the claims that were being made during the budget debate so I thought it was best to clear this up.
The Kalgoorlie MRI and the motor sports precinct are grouped together under the heading ''Administration and Administered Items'' at the end of chapter 7 of budget paper No 3. It is a fund that has been set aside to work through election commitments that need more work to be done before we can clearly and firmly establish the profile. For example, with the MRI, we are trying to work out the best arrangement in Kalgoorlie where it can be most effectively housed. When that is done, in the next budget we will find a line item, but we have put in excess of $187 million altogether to one side to ensure that those election commitments are included. The Hedland Well Women's Centre in South Hedland project has been funded through the Local Projects, Local Jobs program and the member for Pilbara, Kevin Michel, has ensured that that funding has already been provided under that heading.
