CORONAVIRUS —
MINISTERIAL SALARIES
347. Hon ROBIN SCOTT to the Leader of the House representing
the Premier:
New
Zealand's Prime Minister has said that she and other ministers will
take a 20 per cent pay cut lasting six months to show solidarity with
those affected by the coronavirus outbreak. Are the
ministers of the WA government considering giving themselves a similar pay cut;
and, if not, why not?
Hon SUE
ELLERY replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
As the honourable member will be
aware, the government has already frozen the pay of all members and senior bureaucrats for four years. This was introduced
swiftly in 2017, shortly after we took office. Our responsible financial
management has put us in a strong position to respond to external shocks like COVID-19. We will continue to monitor the situation and respond
accordingly.
