CORRUPTION AND CRIME
COMMISSION — OPERATIONAL ACTIVITIES
568. Hon PETER COLLIER to the Leader of the House
representing the Premier:
I refer to the Premier's
letter to the Leader of the Opposition dated 7 April 2020 in which he stated in
part —
We have been supplied with a list of
the ongoing and emerging operational activities of the Commission, which would be interrupted by a change of
Commissioner at this time, or by the absence of any Commissioner (with
an acting Commissioner stepping into the role).
I
refer also to the Premier's response to part (1) of question without
notice 545, asked on Wednesday, 10 June 2020, when he was asked whether
he had received a list of the ongoing operational activities of the Corruption
and Crime Commission, to which the answer was no. Which is the truth?
Hon SUE
ELLERY replied:
There is probably a question of
standing orders.
The PRESIDENT: I think that
last part would be seeking an opinion, so I do not think you need to respond to
that if you have not got a response.
Hon SUE ELLERY: Thank you,
Madam President. I appreciate your advice. I do not have to, but I intend to.
These
two statements are entirely consistent. The list referred to in the letter has
been provided to the Attorney General's office, which is
entirely appropriate. The letter the member referred to was written on behalf
of the government, with input from the Attorney General's office, and,
as such, is entirely accurate.
The PRESIDENT: Leader of the
Opposition.
Hon Peter Collier: Even
though it is signed by the Premier?
Hon Sue Ellery: On behalf of
the government, yes.
The PRESIDENT: The Leader of
the Opposition has the call.
Hon PETER COLLIER: Thank you,
Madam President—WA Inc mark II!
A government member interjected.
Hon PETER COLLIER: Yes, mate;
I am. Don't you worry about it.
