SUICIDE PREVENTION —
KIMBERLEY
1063. Hon JACQUI BOYDELL to the minister representing the
Minister for Aboriginal Affairs:
I refer to my previous question
without notice 355 in April about Kimberley suicide prevention.
(1) Has the planned June meeting of
the Aboriginal Affairs Coordinating Committee taken place?
(2) Have any
meetings occurred after the June meeting; and, if yes, what were the dates of
those meetings?
(3) If yes to (1)
or (2), will the minister, in the interests of rolled-gold transparency, table
the minutes of the meeting or meetings and explain why there is no record of
the minutes on the Department of the Premier and Cabinet's website?
(4) If no to (1), why not?
(5) Does the
government have an update on the progress of its final response to the coroner's
report, including a date when we can expect this final response to be tabled?
Hon STEPHEN DAWSON
replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided by the
Minister for Aboriginal Affairs.
(1) Yes.
(2) No.
(3)–(4) The
next scheduled meeting of the AACC is on 25 September 2019. The minutes of the
June meeting will be endorsed by the AACC at that meeting. Once the minutes
have been endorsed, the Department of the Premier and Cabinet will publish a communique
of the June meeting on its website.
(5) The
government is currently engaging with key Aboriginal stakeholders to provide a final
response that has been informed by the Aboriginal community. The Minister for
Aboriginal Affairs expects this will be available by the end of the year, as
indicated in the statement of intent on Aboriginal youth suicide.
