Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 18 asked in the Legislative Council on 13 March 2018 by Hon Charles Smith

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

POLICE — WORKERS' COMPENSATION
      18. Hon CHARLES SMITH to the minister representing the Minister for Police:
In light of the fact that two police officers have committed suicide already this year, one of whom I knew personally, can the minister advise the house when she plans to announce the details of the government's election promise regarding the workers' style compensation package for current police officers and those already medically retired?
Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. The following information has been provided to me by the Minister for Police.
The loss of any current or former police officer is tragic. The government is continuing to work on workers' compensation arrangements for police officers and a redress scheme for police officers medically retired due to work-related illness or injury. Regrettably, neither scheme was implemented during the two terms of the former government.
