CORONAVIRUS —
SMALL BUSINESS — GOVERNMENT SUPPORT
30. Hon Dr STEVE THOMAS to the Leader of the House
representing the Premier:
I
refer to the Premier's announcement of $2 000 grants for businesses
impacted by the snap COVID lockdown from 23 April 2021.
(1) Which small businesses will be
eligible to apply for the targeted grant?
(2) What is the
government's applicable definition of ''small business''
deeming them eligible to apply for the targeted grant?
(3) From what specific government
account will the targeted grant be accessed or drawn down?
(4) How was the figure of the $2 000
dollars targeted grant arrived at or calculated?
(5) Who will be
assessing the targeted grant applications, and what right of appeal does a small
business have in the decision-making process?
(6) Is the targeted grant a tax-free
payment to a small business?
Hon SUE ELLERY replied:
I thank the member for some notice
of the question.
(1) As stated on the Small Business Development
Corporation website, the small business lockdown assistance grants
program will provide assistance to small businesses in the Perth and Peel
region in industry sectors most severely impacted by the recent three-day
lockdown and restrictions.
(2) Details of the grants program
and eligibility will be released later this week.
(3) Relief will be funded from the
consolidated account.
(4) The $2 000
grants are commensurate with other recent lockdown relief provided by Victoria,
which also provided $2 000 grants in response to its five-day lockdown in
February, and New South Wales, which provided grants of $3 000 and $5 000 for
businesses significantly impacted by its three-week lockdown over the Christmas–New
Year period.
(5)–(6) See answer to (2).
