Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 341 asked in the Legislative Council on 16 April 2020 by Hon Peter Collier

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

CORRUPTION AND CRIME COMMISSIONER — REAPPOINTMENT

341. Hon PETER COLLIER to the Leader of the House representing the Premier:

I ask this question on behalf of Hon Michael Mischin who is on urgent parliamentary business.

I refer to the Premier's comments regarding the reappointment of Hon John McKechnie as Corruption and Crime Commissioner.

(1) Who came up with the idea of appointing Mr McKechnie by name through amendment to the Corruption, Crime and Misconduct Act 2003?

(2) Is Mr McKechnie prepared to accept the appointment on that basis?

(3) When was the idea first communicated to the Premier, and by whom and what was discussed?

(4) Has Mr McKechnie been spoken to about the idea; and, if not, why not?

(5) If he has been spoken to about the idea, when did that occur, what was said and who else was present during or witness to that conversation?

(6) Has there been correspondence with Mr McKechnie about the idea; and, if not, why not; and, if so, will the Premier table that correspondence; and, if not, why not?

Hon SUE ELLERY replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.

(1)–(6) The Premier does not comment on deliberations of cabinet.
