ENGINEERS'
REGISTRATION SCHEME
1255. Hon ALISON XAMON to the minister representing the Minister for
Commerce and Industrial Relations:
I refer to the proposal to establish
an engineers' registration scheme in Western Australia.
(1) Does the McGowan government
support this proposal?
(2) If no to (1), why not?
(3) If yes to
(1), has the government undertaken or does it anticipate undertaking any work
to progress this proposal?
(4) If yes to (3), what work has
been undertaken or is anticipated will be undertaken?
(5) If no to (3), why not?
Hon
ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:
I thank the member for the question.
The following information has been provided to me by the Minister for Commerce
and Industrial Relations.
(1) The McGowan
government supports the proposal to establish an engineers'
registration scheme in Western Australia on an in-principle basis, subject to
the development of a set of consistent national registration requirements.
(2) Not applicable.
(3)–(4) At
the last Building Ministers' Forum held in Adelaide on 10 August 2018,
ministers agreed that work will be undertaken by the senior officers group on
the development of consistent registration requirements for building
practitioners. The registration of engineers in the building industry is to be
examined as part of this review.
(5) Not applicable.
