KATE SAVAGE — CORONIAL INQUEST — REQUEST
268. Hon NICK GOIRAN to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Attorney General:
I refer to the
powers under section 22(1) of the Coroners Act 1996 to direct that a coroner
holds an inquest.
(1) Following the
death of Kate Savage —
(a) has a coroner
issued a section 24 notice of refusal; and
(b) has the State
Coroner directed a coroner to hold an inquest?
(2) If yes to any part of (1), on
what date?
(3) Will the Attorney General direct
a coroner to hold an inquest into Kate Savage's death?
(4) If no to (3), why not?
Hon
MATTHEW SWINBOURN replied:
I
thank the member for some notice of the question. I provide the following
answer on behalf of the Attorney General.
(1)–(4) Unexpected
deaths are always tragic, particularly when they involve children. The Attorney
General and I extend our heartfelt condolences to Mr and Mrs Savage. Earlier
this month, Mr and Mrs Savage wrote to the Attorney General. The Attorney
General will respond to the family personally in due course.
