Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 1024 asked in the Legislative Council on 30 October 2018 by Hon Simon O’Brien

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

SWAN VALLEY EXPLORER BUS SERVICE

1024. Hon SIMON O'BRIEN to the minister representing the Minister for Transport:

I refer to the McGowan government's commitment for a hop-on, hop-off Swan Valley Explorer bus service.

(1) What is the state government's commitment to this initiative and how is it being spent?

(2) How was the successful proponent of the service selected; and, if it was through a tender, how was the tender process undertaken?

(3) If a tender was not undertaken, why not?

(4) Were other potential proponents provided an opportunity to offer or bid to provide the service; and, if so, how?

(5) Over what period will the Swan Valley Explorer operate as a result of state government funding?

(6) Will the Swan Valley Explorer continue to operate once the state government's funding is exhausted?

(7) What performance indicators have been established to measure the success of the state government's investment in the Swan Valley Explorer service?

Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. The following information is provided on behalf of the Minister for Transport.

(1) In relation to the transport portfolio, Transperth has granted approval for the Swan Valley Explorer service to use Transperth bus stops in the Swan Valley.

(2)–(3) The Swan Valley Explorer service is a commercial enterprise.

(4)–(7) Not applicable.

Several members interjected.

The PRESIDENT: Order! Are we ready to go? Hon Jim Chown.
