END-OF-LIFE CHOICES
LEGISLATION — PUBLIC CONSULTATION
242. Hon RICK MAZZA to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to the government's
media statement dated 19 March 2019 entitled ''Western Australians urged
to comment on voluntary assisted dying'', which announced that public
consultation is now open and forums will be held at both Perth metropolitan and
regional locations.
(1) Noting that the three proposed Perth metropolitan
and four regional public consultation sessions are being held during
working hours, what provisions have been put in place for working people to
attend these sessions?
(2) If there is
no consideration to hold these consultation sessions after normal working
hours, why is this the case?
Hon
ALANNA CLOHESY replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) Members of
the public are being given as much notice as possible to enable them to attend
these sessions with members of the Ministerial Expert Panel on Voluntary
Assisted Dying. Public consultation sessions are also being advertised via
statewide and local media to ensure that Western Australians can have their say
on the development of laws to enable voluntary assisted dying.
(2) If it is not
possible to attend in person, Western Australians can contribute to the
consultation by reading the discussion paper and providing written submissions
online or by letter to the ministerial expert panel. There is also a website available;
the address is www.health.wa.gov.au/voluntaryassisteddying.
