CHILD PROTECTION — CARERS AND RESIDENTIAL
PLACEMENTS
422. Hon NICK GOIRAN to the Leader of the House representing
the Minister for Child Protection:
I refer to contracts for residential
care providers that are set to expire on 30 June 2020.
(1) How many contracts have not yet
been signed?
(2) For what reasons have those
contracts not been signed?
(3) If those
contracts are not signed by the required deadline, what will happen to the
children who are currently being provided placements under those contracts?
Hon SUE
ELLERY replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question and note his excellent choice of drinking
apparatus.
(1)–(2) The service
providers have requested additional funding to extend the contracts.
(3) The
Department of Communities is committed to ensuring children are supported
through safe care arrangements and is
working with those providers to arrive at a resolution. In the event that a care
arrangement is no longer available, Communities will determine
alternative placement options for the children.
