Question Without Notice No. 693 asked in the Legislative Council on 24 June 2020 by Hon Diane Evers

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

FOREST PRODUCTS COMMISSION — PINE PLANTATIONS

693. Hon DIANE EVERS to the minister representing the Minister for Forestry:

(1) What are the volumes and time frame of contracts that the Forest Products Commission has for the supply of pine, in detail, for —

(a) Pinus radiata;

(b) Pinus pinaster; and

(c) other species of pine?

(2) When the FPC harvests a pine plantation, what criteria are used to determine —

(a) whether the area should be replanted or not; and

(b) what species should be replanted?

(3) Please advise all species that are considered for replanting harvested pine plantations for —

(a) softwood; and

(b) hardwood, if any?

(4) Do the criteria referred to in (2) consider the proximity to built-up areas and their growth—for example, the expansion and increasing density of Margaret River towards the plantations north of the town—and, if not, why not?

Hon ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:

I thank the member for the question.

The answer to (1) is set out in tabular form. I seek leave to have the response incorporated into Hansard.
