Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 129 asked in the Legislative Council on 25 May 2017 by Hon Robin Chapple

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

PETROGLYPHS — TWO MILE RIDGE, NELSON POINT
      129. Hon ROBIN CHAPPLE to the minister representing the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs:
I refer to my question last week concerning site 11943 Two Mile Ridge and the minister's response.
      (1) On what date was the money granted?
      (2) To which person or organisation was the money granted?
      (3) What, if any, works have so far been carried out at the site and, if none, where was the money spent?
      (4) Have discussions with traditional owners been entered into to develop a broader management plan for the Two Mile Ridge heritage site?
      (5) Why is the fence still down?
Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1)–(5) The Department of Aboriginal Affairs offered a grant to the Marapikurrinya Aboriginal Corporation in June 2016. Ongoing discussions have occurred with the Marapikurrinya Aboriginal Corporation regarding the release of the funds and the project management plan. The funds have not yet been released by the Department of Aboriginal Affairs and no work has been carried out to date. The Department of Aboriginal Affairs is continuing to work with the Marapikurrinya Aboriginal Corporation to release the grant and complete the works as soon as possible.
Hon Peter Collier: We don't have a Minister for Aboriginal Affairs.
Hon STEPHEN DAWSON: At the moment, there is.
