Parliament: 40 Session: 1

PLANNING — PERTH METROPOLITAN REGION

1156. Hon Dr STEVE THOMAS to the minister representing the Minister for Planning:

(1) How does the McGowan Labor government define the Perth metropolitan region for the purposes of government policy and development, including in the regional development portfolio?

(2) Does the government use the Planning and Development Act 2005, introduced under the last Labor government in Western Australia, to define the Perth metropolitan region?

(3) If yes to (2), does the government adhere to the definition in schedule 3 of the Planning and Development Act 2005 to define the Perth metropolitan region for the purposes of regional development?

(4) Under what circumstances does the government use an alternative definition of the Perth metropolitan region and how is this recognised legislatively?

Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. The following information has been provided to me by the Minister for Planning.

(1)–(2) For the purposes of planning applications, the Perth metropolitan region is defined in schedule 3 of the Planning and Development Act 2005.

(3) Yes.

(4) In relation to planning applications, no alternative definition is used.
