Question Without Notice No. 273 asked in the Legislative Council on 22 June 2017 by Hon Nick Goiran

Parliament: 40 Session: 1
Answered on 22 June 2017

      273. Hon NICK GOIRAN to the Minister for Regional Development:
I refer to the Minister for Regional Development's answer to my question without notice on 23 May 2017 in which she informed the house that she would be taking responsibility for the content of her media statements.
      (1) Why did the minister, on 24 May 2017, table 11 media releases in which she falsely purported to be a member of the Legislative Council?
(2) Will the minister apologise to the house?
(3) If yes to (2), when?
(1)–(3) I thank the member for the question. It was a stunning discovery. I have to say that there was a lot of confusion on behalf of government about this, and when I first got to my office it had ''MLC'' written on it and I instructed it to be taken off. I did the same with the cards that had been printed for me. I sent them back and said that I am not an MLC at this point in time. Regrettably, I must acknowledge, and I apologise profoundly to the house, that because our media goes out centrally a template had been drawn up and I had not noticed that ''MLC'' was on that media statement template. Therefore, I do apologise to the member for this grave travesty. I noted an interesting article in ''Inside Cover'' in which it was noted that a couple of members from the other side had committed the same offence.
Several members interjected.
The PRESIDENT: Order! If Hon Simon O'Brien would like to ask a question, now would be a good time to ask it.
