Question On Notice No. 2860 asked in the Legislative Council on 11 March 2020 by Hon Dr Steve Thomas

Question Directed to the: Parliamentary Secretary representing the Minister for Health
Parliament: 40 Session: 1

Question

I refer to the Minister for Health's media release of 13 December 2019, entitled "New Albany radiation oncology service on track", referring to the new radiation unit to be built in the Cancer Centre of Albany Health Campus, and I ask:
(a) is the new radiation oncology service "on track" to be "operational by early 2022", as described in the release;
(b) has the State Government discussed or advised of any potential delays in the completion of the project, with the Federal Government, or any Federal Department;
(c) if yes to (b), when did that discussion occur, and with whom;
(d) is there any potential delay to having the service operational by early 2022; and
(e) if yes to (d), why?

Answered on 13 May 2020

I am advised:

(a) Yes.

(b)-(c) A letter was sent in September 2019 to the Federal Minister for Health outlining the anticipated timeframe for the program of works. There have been no significant changes to the anticipated timeframe.

(d) Yes.

(e) The WA Country Health Service has been informed by Building Management & Works that construction will be complete by June 2022, allowing an August 2022 operational commencement.  This situation is continually being monitored.
