NORTH REGIONAL TAFE —
PROTECTIVE CLOTHING POLICY
431. Hon KEN BASTON to the Minister for Education and
Training:
I
refer to the Broome Advertiser article published on 1 February 2019
regarding the clothing policy at North Regional TAFE.
(1) Is the protective clothing policy at North
Regional TAFE identical to the clothing policy at South Regional TAFE
and the metropolitan TAFE colleges?
(2) If no to (1),
how do they differ?
(3) Could the minister please provide the number of
heat-related incidents at North Regional TAFE Kimberley campuses in the
following years—2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019?
Hon SUE
ELLERY replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) No.
(2) There is no
standard policy across the five TAFE colleges that stipulates that long-sleeved
shirts and pants must be worn in workshops. The risk and appropriate clothing
needed for individual industry areas are assessed by each of the college's
occupational safety and health employees in conjunction with lecturers and
employers of the students. Major resource, civil construction and local
government clients in the north west insist that all works are carried out in
long sleeves and long pants.
(3) The information is provided in
tabular form. I seek leave to have that incorporated into Hansard.
Leave granted.
