Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 397 asked in the Legislative Council on 16 August 2017 by Hon Tim Clifford

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

MAIN ROADS — MURDOCH DRIVE CONNECTION PROJECT
      397. Hon TIM CLIFFORD to the minister representing the Minister for Transport:
I refer to the Main Roads Western Australia website, which lists the key benefits of the Murdoch Drive connection project. Can the minister please provide details of new traffic modelling or a business case that supports these benefits?
Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.
Structure planning and traffic modelling since 2006 has consistently confirmed the requirement for southern access to the Murdoch Activity Centre. A transportation planning study was conducted by consultant Sinclair Knight Merz in 2006 to inform the original Murdoch Activity Centre structure plan. The study stated that the Kwinana Freeway southern connection to the Murdoch Activity Centre was planned solely to provide access to Murdoch Drive to support the Murdoch Activity Centre and was not intended to be an extension of Roe 7 or provide a replacement to Roe Highway stage 8. This is consistent with the need to deliver this project for the development of the Murdoch Activity Centre.
