Parliament: 40 Session: 1

BULLSBROOK COLLEGE — FEDERAL MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT VISIT

172. Hon MARTIN ALDRIDGE to the Minister for Education and Training:

I refer to a recent visit on 27 February by federal Labor member for Sydney, Tanya Plibersek; federal senator for Western Australia, Sue Lines; and Labor candidate for Pearce, Kim Travers, to Bullsbrook College.

(1) Was the visit to Bullsbrook College approved by the minister?

(2) Was consent of parents sought for the federal members and candidate to take photographs with the children, including those taken by media in attendance?

(3) Does the minister support the use of departmental staff and public school students for the political purpose of announcing a Labor election commitment?

(4) Did the visit comply with the departmental policy relating to school visits?

Hon SUE ELLERY replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.

(1) Yes.

(2) Parental consent for photos is a matter for schools.

(3)–(4) All members of Parliament visiting public schools are expected to observe the Department of Education's protocols.
