Question Without Notice No. 86 asked in the Legislative Council on 20 March 2018 by Hon Ken Baston
Parliament: 40 Session: 1
BROOME SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL — FIRE SAFETY SYSTEM
86. Hon KEN BASTON to the minister representing the Minister for Finance:
Can the Minister for Finance please provide an update from Building Management and Works on the progress in ensuring that Broome Senior High School's fire hydrant system is operational, safe to operate and meets Australian standards?
Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.
The Department of Finance's Building Management and Works is currently developing a proposal to address elements of the fire safety system at Broome Senior High School that remain inoperable due to tree root damage and corrosion. It is not uncommon for elements of fire safety systems to be temporarily non-operational when remediation work is required and, accordingly, local Department of Fire and Emergency Services personnel have put strategies in place to mitigate any risk to students and staff.
