Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 1089 asked in the Legislative Council on 25 September 2019 by Hon Diane Evers

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

BUNBURY OUTER RING ROAD — SOUTHERN SECTION

1089. Hon DIANE EVERS to the minister representing the Minister for Transport:

I refer to the Bunbury Outer Ring Road project, southern corridor.

(1) Has the department completed modelling studies on urban growth in the Bunbury region and the impact on the BORR in the medium-term, 20 to 30 years, to long-term, 50 to 60 years outlook?

(2) If yes to (1), will the minister please table the results?

(3) If no to (1) will the minister consider undertaking such a study prior to the construction of the southern corridor?

(4) If yes to (1), will the minister please explain if and how medium to long-term growth has been factored into the route chosen for the southern corridor?

(5) Is it anticipated that a future Bunbury bypass or ring-road will be required?

Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.

(1) Yes.

(2) Creating a summary of traffic volumes, with and without BORR, for the ultimate planning scenario and for 2041 requires additional work to summarise the data. This can be tabled in due course.

(3) Not applicable.

(4) The ultimate planning concept design for the Bunbury Outer Ring Road caters for forecast ultimate traffic volumes. The project design will cater for traffic in the medium term—2041 forecast year. Without BORR, this traffic would use existing roads, causing congestion and road safety problems.

(5) No.
