Question Without Notice No. 714 asked in the Legislative Council on 31 October 2017 by Hon Donna Faragher

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

INDEPENDENT PUBLIC SCHOOLS INITIATIVE
      714. Hon DONNA FARAGHER to the Minister for Education and Training:
I refer to the minister's answer to question without notice 569 asked on 12 September 2017 regarding the independent public schools initiative.
      (1) Has the minister now sought advice from her department as to when expressions of interest will be called from non-independent public schools that wish to apply to become independent public schools in the future?
(2) If yes to (1), when will the department call for expressions of interest?
(3) If no to (1), why not?
Hon SUE ELLERY replied:
I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question
      (1) Yes. The state government supports the independent public school initiative. Currently there are 524 IPS in WA, and 261 schools that are not IPS. I have sought advice regarding a development program in 2018 for interested school communities to commence as IPS in 2019.
      (2) The Department of Education will call for expressions of interest once the details, including dates, have been finalised.
(3) Not applicable.
