MAINTENANCE CONTRACT

Minister for Transport:
I refer to the contract signed with
Alstom for the assembly and maintenance of trains.
(1) What is the value of the
maintenance component in the contract with Alstom?
(2) What is the length of the
maintenance contract with Alstom?
(3) What is the
total number of jobs that will be created, broken down by maintenance, assembly
and construction of the assembly facility?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided by the
Minister for Transport.
(1) The cost of the railcar
contract is $1.25 billion, which is $347 million under the original budget.
(2) The initial term of the
maintenance contract is 20 years, with two extension options of five years.
(3) Around 100 jobs are expected to
be created during construction and more upon commissioning.
