Question

I refer to Western Australia Police’s Approved Commercial Carriers policy update, 7 November 2017, in relation to the transportation of licensed firearms in Western Australia, and I ask:
(a) is this still the current policy for Approved Commercial Carriers, or has the policy since been updated;
(b) if the policy has been updated, could Western Australia Police please provide a copy of the current policy and the date on which it was updated;
(c) what was the justification for any changes made to the policy since 7 November 2017;
(d) were stakeholders from the licensed firearms industry or transport companies consulted before these changes were made;
(e) if yes to (d), when and whom was consulted; and
(f) if no to (d), why not?

Answered on 19 September 2018

The Western Australian Police Force advise:

(a - e) The Approved Commercial Carriers policy was updated in May 2018 to provide greater flexibility, allowing more entities to become approved carriers, while maintaining community safety. There was consultation with the industry, including representatives from the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (WA), WA Firearms Traders Association and the Hon Rick Mazza MLC. A copy of the policy is attached [see tabled paper number].

(f) Not Applicable.
