POLICE — COMPENSATION SCHEME

1486. Hon MARTIN ALDRIDGE to the minister representing the Minister for Police:

I refer to the state government's commitment to introduce a police-specific compensation scheme prior to the next state election.

(1) Is the government's plan on track to deliver legislative reform prior to March 2021?

(2) When is it likely that a bill will be introduced to Parliament to give effect to such a scheme?

(3) Who has the state government consulted with in relation to the design and operation of such a scheme?

(4) When does the government expect the scheme to be operational?

Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided to me by the Minister for Police.

(1) Yes.

(2) In 2020.

(3) To date, the Western Australia Police Force and relevant government agencies have been consulted. There have been discussions with the Western Australian Police Union of Workers and the Medically Retired Western Australian Police Officers Association, and there will be further consultation with them.

(4) As soon as practicable after the legislation has received royal assent and been proclaimed.
