Parliament: 40 Session: 1

Answered on 2 April 2019

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AUTHORITY — GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS

280. Hon PETER COLLIER to the Minister for Environment:

I refer to the Environmental Protection Authority's revised ''Environmental Factor Guidance—Greenhouse Gas Emissions'' and the EPA's revised ''Technical Guidance—Mitigating Greenhouse Gas Emissions'' released on 7 March.

(1) On what date did the board approve the revisions to the guidance documents?

(2) Were the revisions to the guidance documents approved at a board meeting or by circular resolution?

(3) Will the minister table the relevant board papers; and, if not, why not?

Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:

I thank the Leader of the Opposition for some notice of the question.

(1)–(2) The EPA board resolved that the chairman finalise and approve the guidance documents at its meeting on 21 February 2019. Amendments were made to the documents by the chairman in consultation with members of the board and finalised by the chairman on 7 March 2019.

(3) Public availability of these minutes is subject to the making of a determination under regulation 2B(3) of the Environmental Protection Regulations 1987. Regulation 2B(2) provides that, with the exception of exempt matters, minutes of EPA meetings are to be made available for public inspection after the expiration of six months from the day on which the minutes were made. These documents will be publicly available in August 2019.
