Answered on

HARDSHIP UTILITY GRANT SCHEME

302. Hon COLIN TINCKNELL to the Leader of the House representing the Minister for Community Services:

Can the minister please provide a monthly breakdown of the following statistics regarding the hardship utility grant scheme from January 2017 to the present.

(1) How many requests were made for HUGS?

(2) How many of these HUGS requests were granted?

(3) What was the dollar value of the grants provided?

(4) What is the value of utility bills that have been written off by utilities providers due to non-payment of household consumer accounts?

(5) Can the minister please advise how many bankruptcies have occurred when household consumer accounts have been included in individuals' statements of affairs during the bankruptcy and personal insolvency agreements?

The PRESIDENT: Member, I might say, there is probably a lot of detail required in that response. Sometimes those types of questions might be better put on notice to allow the relevant agency enough time to provide that information. I just say that as advice for the future.

Hon SUE ELLERY replied:

Thanks, Madam President; indeed, there have been discussions behind the Chair between my office and the honourable member's office to say that it is not possible to provide that level of detail today. However, I thank the member for the question. Due to the level of information required, it is not possible to provide an answer in the time available. I will endeavour to provide the information to the honourable member by Thursday, 4 April.
