Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 82 asked in the Legislative Council on 20 March 2018 by Hon Colin Tincknell

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

TOURISM WA — CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
      82. Hon COLIN TINCKNELL to the minister representing the Minister for Tourism:
      (1) What qualifications does the current director general of the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation have that qualifies them to also be the CEO of Tourism Western Australia?
      (2) Why is such an important role being undertaken and fulfilled on only a part-time basis by someone who is also responsible for an entire department, presumably on a full-time basis?
      (3) Does the government have any intentions to hire a full-time, dedicated CEO of Tourism WA, with expertise in tourism, and —
      (a) if so, when; and
      (b) if not, why not?
Hon ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:
I thank the member for the question. The Minister for Tourism has provided me with the following information.
      (1) The director general of the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation is a senior public servant with experience leading high-profile economic development agencies and productive teams of professionals.
(2)–(3) Like other divisions within the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation, Tourism Western Australia's divisions are managed by qualified and experienced professionals, under the direction and guidance of the director general.
