Parliamentary Questions

Question On Notice No. 1707 asked in the Legislative Council on 18 October 2018 by Hon Nick Goiran

Question Directed to the: Parliamentary Secretary representing the Deputy Premier; Minister for Health; Mental Health
Parliament: 40 Session: 1

Question

I refer to modelling contained in the Better Choices. Better Lives, Western Australian Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drug Services Plan 2015-2025 that “effectively shows an optimal level and mix of services and where the imbalances and underinvestment are in the current mental health, alcohol and other drug system”. With regards to the Plan Matrix table on page 105 and 106, I ask:
(a) can the Minister update the current (September Quarter 2018) details of the existing service types, levels and locations across Western Australia; and
(b) what is the existing gap between the current service types, levels and locations across Western Australia compared to the levels indicated that are required by the Commissions modelling based on population, demand and prevalence (September Quarter 2018)?

Answered on 22 November 2018

I am advised that:

(a)-(b) The Mental Health Commission is currently drafting the Plan Update 2018, which will provide information on changes in the strategic environment for the mental health and alcohol and other drug sectors for each of the eight service streams described in the Plan. The Plan Update 2018 will include the status, as at 30 September 2018, of the 112 actions or sub-actions due for completion by the end of 2017; revised estimated optimal levels of service for 2020 and 2025; and the estimated actual level of services as at 30 June 2017.
